Summary
That this House remembers the 32 members of the Prison Service who lost their lives largely as a result of civil unrest and the Troubles, due to their employment; expresses its profound gratitude to them for their faithful service to upholding and maintaining the justice system in Northern Ireland for the protection of the wider public; recognises the many others and their families who have been seriously injured or subject to prolonged verbal, psychological intimidation or abuse; acknowledges the deep importance of continuing to remember and commemorate the sacrifices of those who lost their lives in the prison service; further expresses sincere sympathy to the families and friends of all those who have lost their lives in the course of duty; and calls on the Government to support a memorial in each council area in Northern Ireland to honour the 32 lives lost.
