Summary
Selective randomisation of the jury would enable at least 50% female representation on trials involving rape & violence against women, domestic violence & intimate partner abuse. A woman is killed by a man every 3 days in the UK. Violence against women & girls (VAWG) makes up just under 20% per cent of all recorded crime in England & Wales. In the year ending March 2023, police recorded 103,135 rape and serious sexual offences. 1 in 20 people are estimated to be perpetrators of VAWG per year, with the actual number thought to be significantly higher. 71,227 rapes were recorded by police in 2024, charges were brought in just 2.7% of these cases. THIS HAS TO CHANGE.
