An amendment to require the Justice Department to reserve funds for use by the National Institute of Justice to help local governments modernize their law enforcement technology and buy equipment. The amendment also permits the NIJ to continue research and development efforts on new technologies that can help enhance the safety and effectiveness of local law enforcement.
