Summary
TABLE OF CONTENTS: Title I: Miscellaneous Trade Corrections Title II: Temporary Duty Suspensions and Related Provisions Miscellaneous Trade and Technical Corrections Act of 1997 - Title I: Miscellaneous Trade Corrections - Makes various specified miscellaneous technical corrections to the Tariff Act of 1930 and other specified Federal law involving: (1) review of protests against decisions of the Customs Service; (2) drawback and refund of packaging material; (3) inclusion of commercial importation data from foreign-trade zones under the National Customs Automation Program; (4) treatment of international travel merchandise held at customs-approved storage rooms; (5) entries of North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)-origin goods, including any protest against a decision of the Customs Service relating to NAFTA claims; and (6) overtime and premium pay of Customs officers. Directs the Secretary of the Treasury to convene a working group of interested parties and, by March 31, 1998, publish regulations and, if necessary, submit legislation to the Congress, to modify and simplify the processing of finished petroleum derivatives drawback claims. Title II: Temporary Duty Suspensions and Related Provisions - Amends the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States to provide for temporary duty suspensions for: (1) specified anti-HIV and anti-AIDS drugs and anti-cancer drugs through December 31, 2000; (2) specified chemicals variously through December 31, 1998, December 31, 1999, and December 31, 2000; (3) high tenacity single yarn of viscose rayon through December 31, 1999; and (4) skating boots for use in the manufacture of in-line roller skates, tannic acid, and specified single yarn of viscose rayon through December 31, 2000. Provides for the tariff treatment for certain components of scientific instruments and apparatus, as well as the application of the domestic equivalency test to such components.
