Summary
Medical Waste Treatment Amendments of 1989 - Amends the Solid Waste Disposal Act to direct the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate the treatment of medical waste by: (1) specifying procedures and standards for rendering infectious components of such waste noninfectious; or (2) regulating medical waste as a hazardous waste under such Act. Requires generators of medical waste who produce more than 50 pounds of such waste per month to render all infectious components of such waste noninfectious before the waste leaves the site of production. Prescribes civil and criminal penalties for violations of this Act.
