Summary

Rural Elders Assistance Act - Amends the Older Americans Act of 1965 to assure that all older persons residing in a planning and service area, including those residing in isolated or sparsely populated rural communities, will have reasonably convenient access to information and referral sources for such older persons. Requires the Commissioner on Aging to give special consideration to model projects designed: (1) to meet the special needs of older persons in rural areas; and (2) to develop models for independent living for older persons to assist such persons to remain within their communities and out of institutions. Includes mobile units within the definition of multipurpose senior center.
