Summary
Expresses support for the efforts undertaken by Prime Minister I. K. Gujral of India and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan to normalize relations between the two countries. Call for: (1) the issue of the status of Jammu and Kashmir to be resolved in conjunction with India and Pakistan and representatives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir; (2) the wishes of such people to be impartially ascertained as regards the future status of their state; and (3) the United States to continue to use its best efforts to promote peace and stability in South Asia as well as to the normalization of relations between India and Pakistan.
