Summary

Expresses the sense of Congress that: (1) the Federal Government should urge the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the strongest possible terms not to enact into law the so-called “anti-secession” legislation or any other legislation that threatens Taiwan or in any way jeopardizes peace between China and Taiwan, continue to encourage a regional high-level dialogue on the best means to ensure stability, peace, freedom of the seas, and deterrence in East Asia, and reaffirm its unwavering commitment to the Taiwan Relations Act as the cornerstone of U.S. relations with Taiwan; (2) the President should seek from the PRC leaders an immediate and unequivocal public renunciation of any threat or use of force against Taiwan, encourage further dialogue between democratic Taiwan and the PRC, direct all appropriate Federal officials to raise these concerns with the appropriate PRC officials, and seek a public, immediate, and unequivocal renunciation from the PRC leaders of any threat or use of force against Taiwan; and (3) Taiwan's future should be determined peacefully and with the express consent of its people.
