Summary
Congratulates: (1) the people of the Republic of Venezuela for the successful completion of democratic multiparty elections held on December 6, 1998; and (2) President Hugo Chavez for his election victory and his commitment to a strong democracy. Recognizes that all Venezuelans should continue to work together to ensure a strong and stable democracy, respect for human rights, a free and market-oriented economy, and social justice and economic prosperity. Reaffirms the U.S. commitment to: (1) help Venezuela move toward a stronger democracy, economic growth, and social justice for all; and (2) encouraging democracy, economic growth, and peaceful development throughout the Western Hemisphere.
