Summary
Commends the people of Hong Kong for successfully holding their first direct elections to the Legislative Council. Congratulates the 18 newly elected members of the Council. Urges: (1) the Government of Hong Kong to respect the views of the democratically elected representatives of the people of Hong Kong; and (2) the further development of democratic institutions in Hong Kong at an accelerated pace in advance of the 1995 elections and the subsequent transfer of Hong Kong to China in 1997.
