Summary
Seadust tuleb muuta, et rakendada ELi vastavat määrust, millega on loodud üle-euroopaline geograafiliste tähiste kaitse süsteem käsitöönduslikele ja tööstustoodetele. Määrusega laiendatakse seni toidu- ja joogitoodetele kehtinud päritolukaitse loogikat ka muudele toodetele, võimaldades kaitsta piirkonnaga seotud nime, kvaliteeti ja traditsioonilist oskusteavet kogu Euroopa Liidus. Geograafiline tähis viitab kindlast geograafilisest piirkonnast pärit tootele, mille omadused või maine on seotud nende päritoluga. Kaitstud tähist võivad kasutada kõik tootjad, kes tegutsevad määratletud piirkonnas ja vastavad kehtestatud nõuetele. Teistel tootjatel ei ole õigust tähist kasutada. Uus kord annab tootjatele võimaluse kaitsta käsitöönduslikke ja tööstustooteid ning nendega seotud traditsioonilist oskusteavet ühe taotlusega kogu Euroopa Liidus. See aitab tõsta toodete väärtust, hõlbustab nende turustamist välisturgudel ja hoiab ära nimetuste väärkasutuse. Tarbijatele loob geograafiline tähis selge ja usaldusväärse märgi toote päritolu ja kvaliteedi kohta, mis hõlbustab teadlike valikute tegemist. Euroopa tasandil hõlmab süsteem selliseid tuntud näiteid nagu Murano klaas, Donegali tviid, Limoges’i portselan, Solingeni söögiriistad ja Bolesławieci keraamika. Eestis loob eelnõu võimaluse kaitsta muu hulgas Muhu tikandit, Haapsalu ravimuda, Setu pitsi, Saaremaa sepatööd. Muudatused aitavad säilitada ja edendada piirkondlikke oskusi, toetada kohalikke meistreid ning luua ja hoida töökohti Euroopa eri piirkondades.
