Summary
Konventsiooni ratifitseerimisega toetab Eesti merendussektoris inimväärsete töötingimuste loomist. Konventsioon tagab Eestile olulised järelevalvealased eelised. Samuti tekivad paremad võimalused tegeleda ebaausa konkurentsi vastase kaitsega. Meretöö konventsioon kehtestab ulatuslikud rahvusvahelised miinimumnõuded meremeeste töötegevuse peaaegu kõigi tingimuste kohta. Konventsioon näeb ette meremeeste õiguse õiglastele töölepingutingimustele, inimväärsetele töö- ja elamistingimustele laeva pardal, samuti tervisekaitsele, meditsiiniabile, hoolekandemeetmetele ning muudele sotsiaalkaitse abinõudele. Lisaks aitavad konventsiooni sätted tõhustada laevapere liikme töö- ja elamistingimuste järelevalvet ning sellega seonduvalt lipu- ja sadamariigi järelevalvekohustusi. Konventsioon kohaldub kõigile avamerel majandustegevuses osalevatele laevadele. Meretöö konventsioon jõustus 20. augustil 2012. Praeguseks on meretöö konventsiooni ratifitseerinud 72 ILO liiget.
