Summary
Nagoya protokolliga ühinedes panustab Eesti eelkõige maailma elurikkuse kaitsesse ning selle kasutamisest saadava tulu õiglasesse jaotamisse. Suurem osa maailma looduse mitmekesisusest asub arenguriikides. Riigisisesed normid protokolli rakendamiseks on olemas. Ühinemise seaduse vastuvõtmine on vajalik, sest protokoll täiendab Eesti poolt ratifitseeritud bioloogilise mitmekesisuse konventsiooni. Nagoya protokolli osaliseks saamisega seotud kohustuslik kulutus Eesti jaoks on osamakse konventsiooni põhieelarvesse ning osalemine protokolliosaliste koosolekutel. Need kulud kaetakse keskkonnaministeeriumi eelarvest. Tänaseks on protokollil 105 osalist. Euroopa Liit kiitis protokolli 2014. aastal, Eesti võttis vastavad õigusnormid üle 2017. aastal jõustunud looduskaitseseadusega.
