Summary
Otsuse eelnõu võimaldab 2027. aastal jätkata kuni kolme kaitseväelasega osalemist Euroopa Liidu rahvusvahelisel sõjalisel operatsioonil EUNAVFOR Aspides. Eesti panustab 2026. aastal operatsiooni ühe kaitseväelasega, kes teenib praegu Kreekas ja täidab lahinguvalve vahetuse ülema abi ülesandeid. Euroopa Liidu Nõukogu moodustas operatsiooni 08.02.2024. a seoses Punase mere kriisiga. Operatsioon alustas tegevust 19.02.2024. a ning selle praegune mandaat kehtib 2027. aasta veebruarini. Operatsiooniala hõlmab Bab el Mandebi ja Hormuzi väina, Punase ja Araabia mere ning Adeni, Omaani ja Pärsia lahe rahvusvahelisi vesi. Operatsiooni eesmärk on kaitsta meresõiduvabadust ja kaubalaevu rünnakute eest. Selleks jälgitakse olukorda merel ning vajaduse korral kaitstakse ja eskorditakse laevu. Olupildi loomise käigus jälgitakse ka varilaevastiku tegevust. Operatsioon on kaitsva iseloomuga. Selles osaleb 21 Euroopa Liidu liikmesriiki ning juhtriik on Kreeka.
