Summary
Eelnõu võimaldab panustada kuni viie kaitseväelasega Ammerika Ühendriikide juhitavasse operatsiooni Sentinel. Ameerika Ühendriigid tegid 2019. aasta suvel algatuse luua rahvusvaheline merejulgeoleku koalitsioon IMSC (International Maritime Security Construct), mille eesmärk on tagada meresõiduvabadus ja laevade turvalisus Hormuzi väinas ning edendada reeglitel põhinevat rahvusvahelist korda. Selle saavutamiseks on IMSC käivitanud operatsiooni Sentinel Hormuzi väina piirkonnas. Hormuzi väin ühendab Pärsia ja Omaani lahte ning eraldab Araabia poolsaart Iraanist, seda läbivad olulised naftatransiitteed. Alates suvest 2019 on Iraan suurendanud oma tegevust Hormuzi väina piirkonnas, sealhulgas korraldanud rahvusvahelistes vetes agressiivseid intsidente alustega ja hõivanud laevu. Eesti prioriteet on rahvusvahelisel õigusel ja reeglitel põhinevad rahvusvahelised suhted, kaasa arvatud meresõiduvabaduse tagamine. Operatsioonil osalemisega annab Eesti oma panuse Lähis-Ida piirkonna stabiilsuse ja julgeoleku suurendamisse. Eesti panustaks 2020. aasta sügisest ühe staabiohvitseriga operatsiooni peakorteris Bahreinis. Operatsioonil Sentinel osalemisega jätkab Eesti väga head kahepoolset koostööd rahvusvaheliste operatsioonide vallas strateegiliste partnerite Ameerika Ühendriikide ja Ühendkuningriigiga.
