Summary
Eelnõu näeb ette kasutada Kaitseväe kuni kuute kaitseväelast alates 2021. aasta 1. jaanuarist kuni 2021. aasta 31. detsembrini Eesti riigi rahvusvaheliste kohustuste täitmisel Euroopa Liidu sõjalisel missioonil EUNAVFOR Med/Irini. Euroopa Liit käivitas 22. juunil 2015 Vahemere keskosas sõjalise operatsiooni EUNAVFOR Med/Sophia, tõkestamaks ja ennetamaks inimkaubandusega seotud kuritegelike võrgustike tegevust ning põgenike hukkumist teekonnal üle Vahemere Euroopasse. EUNAVFOR Med/Sophia lõpetati k.a 21. märtsil ning selle asemel on missioon EUNAVFOR Med/Irini, Missiooni eesmärk on jäänud sarnaseks, kuid operatsiooniala vähenenud ning põhieesmärk on suunatud ÜRO relvaembargo rakendamisele Liibüale ning illegaalse naftaekspordi tõkestamisele Liibüast ja Liibüa piirivalve ja mereväe väljaõppele. Lisaks tegeletakse inimkaubanduse tõkestamisega.
