Summary
Eelnõu võimaldab panustada kuni 280 kaitseväelasega Põhja-Atlandi Organisatsiooni (NATO) valmidusüksuste koosseisu. NATO reageerimisjõudude (NATO Response Force − NRF) loomine otsustati Praha tippkohtumisel 2002. aastal. NRF on kõrgvalmiduses üksus, mis suudab ellu viia sõjalisi operatsioone mistahes maailma punktis. NRF-il on võtmeroll NATO lühikese etteteatamisajaga kollektiivkaitseoperatsioonide käivitamisel. NRF allub SACEUR-ile (Supreme Allied Commander Europe). NRF-i siirmise otsustab Põhja-Atlandi Nõukogu. NRF-i täismehitatuse tagamine on otseselt Eesti riigi huvides, sest NRF tagab NATO pühendumuse heidutusele ja kollektiivkaitsele. Lisaks sellele täidab Eesti oma liitlaskohustusi panustades ka NATO valmidusinitsiatiivi (NATO Readiness Initiative – NRI) alates 2021. aasta algusest. NRI lepiti kokku NATO tippkohtumisel Brüsselis 2018. aastal. Algatuse eesmärk on tõsta liitlaste vägede valmidust, et oleksime vajadusel valmis oma vägedega kiiresti reageerima, sh kollektiivkaitse olukordades. Need üksused on lisaks juba NRF-is olevatele vägedele.
