Summary

The bill provides for the use, if necessary, of up to 200 active-duty soldiers of the Defense Forces from January 1, 2018 to December 31, as part of the NRF (NATO Response Force) of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in a military operation organized for the purpose of maintaining or restoring peace and security and the generally accepted practices and principles of international law on the basis of Chapters VI and VII of the Charter of the United Nations in a coordinated other military operation. The NRF ensures NATO's rapid response capability and plays a key role in launching NATO collective defense operations at very short notice. Ensuring the operational capacity of the NRF is directly in the interest of the Estonian state. The use of the NRF is decided unanimously by the North Atlantic Council, which means that the NRF can only be used with the consent of Estonia.
