Summary
Eelnõu võimaldab panustada kuni kolme kaitseväelasega Ühinenud Rahvaste Organisatsiooni (ÜRO) missioonil UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon). UNIFIL-i ülesanne on ära hoida vaenutegevuste tekkimine, toetada Liibanoni relvajõude Lõuna-Liibanonis ning koordineerida Liibanoni ja Iisraeli valitsuse tegevust neis küsimustes. Samuti on UNIFIL-i ülesanne aidata tagada humanitaarabi kättesaadavus tsiviilelanikele ning toetada sisepõgenike vabatahtlikku ja turvalist koju naasmist. Eesti osales UNIFIL-is aastatel 1996–1997, mil panustas rahuvalvekompaniiga (135 kaitseväelast). 2015. aasta kevadest 2018. aasta sügiseni panustas Eesti UNIFIL-i jalaväerühma ja toetuselemendiga – kokku 38 kaitseväelasega – Soome ja Iiri ühispataljoni koosseisus. Alates 2018. aasta sügisest panustab Eesti ühe staabiohvitseriga missiooni peakorteris Naqouras. 2020. aastal jätkab Eesti UNIFIL-i panustamist kuni kolme kaitseväelasega.
