Summary
Eelnõu võimaldab jätkata panustamist kuni kuue kaitseväelasega operatsioonil EUNAVFOR Med/Sophia. EUNAVFOR Med/Sophia ülesanne on tõkestada illegaalset migratsiooni Vahemerel ning tõsta Liibüa rannavalve ja mereväe võimekust ja anda teostada nende väljaõpet. Samuti kogutakse informatsiooni Liibüast illegaalselt transporditava nafta kohta vastavalt ÜRO JN resolutsioonile 2146 (2014) ja resolutsioonile 2362 (2017) ning tõhustatakse inimkaubandusega seotud infovahetust EL-i liikmesriikide, FRONTEX-i ja EUROPOL-i vahel. Operatsiooni mandaadi viimasel pikendamisel märtsis 2019 lõpetati laevade osalemine operatsioonil, millega kadus reaalne võime päästa Vahemerel inimelusid. Operatsioonil osalemisega panustab Eesti solidaarselt teiste liikmesriikidega EL-i sõjalisse operatsiooni, mis aitab kaasa Euroopasse suunduva illegaalse migratsiooni tõkestamisse, suurendab Eesti välispoliitilist nähtavust ja annab Eesti kaitseväelastele võimaluse saada operatsioonil mitmekülgseid kogemusi.
