Summary
Eelnõu kohaselt võimaldatakse 2023. aastal panustada kuni 285 kaitseväelasega Põhja-Atlandi Organisatsiooni (NATO) valmidusüksuste koosseisu. NATO reageerimisjõud (NATO Response Force − NRF) on kõrgvalmiduses üksus, mis suudab ellu viia sõjalisi operatsioone mistahes maailma punktis. NRF-il on võtmeroll NATO lühikese etteteatamisajaga kollektiivkaitseoperatsioonide käivitamisel. NRF allub SACEUR-ile (Supreme Allied Commander Europe). NRF-i siirmise otsustab Põhja-Atlandi Nõukogu. NRF-i täismehitatuse tagamine on otseselt Eesti riigi huvides, sest NRF tagab NATO pühendumuse heidutusele ja kollektiivkaitsele. Lisaks sellele täidab Eesti oma liitlaskohustusi panustades ka NATO valmidusinitsiatiivi (NATO Readiness Initiative – NRI) alates 2021. aasta algusest. Algatuse eesmärk on tõsta liitlaste vägede valmidust, et oleksime vajadusel valmis oma vägedega kiiresti reageerima, sh kollektiivkaitse olukordades. Need üksused on lisaks juba NRF-is olevatele vägedele.
