Summary

Mr. Benoit Simian draws the attention of the Minister of Solidarity and Health to the extension of the duration of paternity leave, in the event of premature birth or hospitalization of the newborn. Each year in France, around 75,000 babies are hospitalized at birth. A highly medicalized birth is an accident which can lead, in cascade, to other difficulties for families: medical, financial, psychological and social. Although some mothers have benefited, since 2006, from an extension of their maternity leave in the event of hospitalization of their baby or in the event of prematurity of the child, nothing is provided for fathers. As with a traditional birth, they can claim 3 days of birth leave and 11 days of paternity leave which they generally take upon leaving the maternity ward or hospital. In these conditions, the support and supporting the spouse and child are very complicated. He generally has to work and cannot accompany his child or his spouse at this critical moment. He therefore questions the Government about its intentions in this area and asks whether extending the duration of paternity leave, in the event of premature birth or hospitalization of the newborn, is being considered.
