Summary
Mrs. Marie Tamarelle-Verhaeghe draws the attention of the Minister of Solidarity and Health to the aging of the prison population and the living conditions of the prisoners concerned. More than eleven percent of the imprisoned population is over fifty years old. Statistics from the prison administration indicate that in thirty years this population has almost increased sixfold. The growing penalization of certain offenses, combined with the increase in the length of sentences and the extension of limitation periods have contributed to making aging and loss of autonomy a major public policy issue. To the problems of unsuitable architecture are added the problems of inadequacy between daily life in a prison environment and the life of prisoners losing their autonomy as well as the problem of taking care of these prisoners, as well underlined by Mr. Antoine Lefèvre in his senatorial information report no. 682 (2016-2017). She therefore wishes to know what measures and means she intends to put in place to respond to the current situation of people losing their autonomy in prison, in a context where their number is only growing.
