Summary
Mrs. Corinne Vignon draws the attention of the Minister of Solidarity and Health to glaucoma, which is the second cause of blindness in France. In fact, this disease affects more than 1.2 million people, including a third of patients who are unaware of it. It can lead to complete blindness, due to the irreversible damage to the optic nerve that it causes. This disease is asymptomatic, painless and invisible and is often diagnosed too late. Patients then find themselves with a significantly deteriorated quality of life, or even quickly in a situation of disability and dependence. According to projections, in 2025 more than 2 million people in France could be affected by this disease. It is therefore important that the prevention and treatment of glaucoma be at the heart of public policies regarding visual impairment. This observation is shared by all the stakeholders involved in this disease, including in particular the National Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired (UNADEV) which supports the visually impaired in their daily lives and supports them in the management of their illness in order to promote their return to autonomy. Also, she would like to know what the Government intends to do on this subject.
