Mr. Didier Martin questions the Minister of Solidarity and Health on the question of screening and vaccination against cervical cancer. With nearly 3,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed and more than 31,000 precancerous lesions identified each year, cervical cancer ranks 11th among female cancers. As such, Burgundy ranks in the upper average with around 100 new cases each year. This cancer has a particularity: it is the only one for which there is both a screening test (by smear) and a vaccine (against the human papillomavirus, HPV). Unlike breast cancer, however, no systematic organized screening for this cancer is offered to all women in the country. Certain territories, which do not include Burgundy-Franche-Comté, have been the subject of experiments with this system presenting conclusive results. Progress is expected to improve screening for this cancer and reduce inequalities in access to screening that exist in the regions. Progress in vaccination is also possible.
