Summary
Ms Annaïg Le Meur draws the attention of the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs to the worrying humanitarian situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Since the start of the unrest in Syria in March 2011, more than five million Syrians have fled their country to neighboring countries (Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan) or to member countries of the European Union. Among them, the High Commission for Refugees counts 1 million refugees Syrians still present in Lebanon, 80% of whom are women and children. The massive presence of Syrian refugees in this country for several years has destabilized Lebanese institutions as well as the local economy. It is creating increasing tension between refugees and Lebanese communities, particularly due to low labor market costs among Syrian refugees and rising housing prices. These latter live in “informal” camps which experience significant sanitation problems (access to running water, insulation, wastewater). Access to education for young children is only partially ensured by the Lebanese State, at the risk of producing a “lost generation”. Also, she asks him to please detail the initiatives undertaken by France to support this friendly country in welcoming refugees on its territory. By Elsewhere, she wishes to know France's position regarding the resolution of the Syrian crisis, the only guarantee of the lasting return of Syrians to their country.
