Summary
Ms. Brigitte Kuster draws the attention of the Minister of Solidarity and Health to the need to offer alternatives to people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and related syndromes following the decree putting an end to the reimbursement by social security of the four medications prescribed in this context on August 1, 2018. As the “old age and autonomy” consultation begins, it seems important to recall the potential that represent non-drug interventions. These interventions, like therapies based, among others, on music therapy, cognitive stimulation, reminiscence, are insufficiently explored. In order to be deployed under the best conditions, these interventions require a strengthening of their scientific evaluation framework which makes it possible to measure their impact in an objective and rigorous manner and to assess their cost/utility ratio. But deploying such a study framework requires additional resources, of the order of 6 million euros per year, according to a recent report from the Médéric Alzheimer Foundation which proposes to give a decisive boost to research in the human and social sciences. Ultimately, innovative practices that have proven their effectiveness in delaying cognitive aging and improving the quality of life of sick people as well as their caregivers could be valued, disseminated and reimbursed by social security. She would also like to know the Government's position on the development of non-drug therapies for the treatment of Alzheimer's and related diseases.
