With the destruction of social housing and the reconstruction of new housing that is unaffordable for the historic populations of the district, it is the social bond and the vitality of the city which risk being weakened. Beyond the question of housing, such demolition-reconstruction projects are ecological, heritage, economic and financial aberrations. The State must therefore act to put an end to it, starting by refusing permits to demolish the first nine buildings in the city of Butte Rouge and by reviewing the perimeter of the SPR to encompass the entire city.
