Summary
Mr. Éric Alauzet draws the attention of the Minister of National Education and Youth to the importance of emphasizing the consideration of ecological issues in economic and social sciences (SES) programs. The draft new final year SES program includes a chapter dedicated to the environment. This addition is necessary, the approach of the SES being complementary to those of the scientific subjects to obtain a comprehensive understanding of climate change. Furthermore, today it appears essential to train young people in ecological issues. In the mission letter of June 20, 2019, the Minister asked the president of the Higher Program Council to “offer more explicit, more precise and more complete lessons on (...) the issues relating to the environment and biodiversity” and hoped that elements “related to climate change, sustainable development and biodiversity in the programs” should be strengthened. Following this ambition, and in the face of the climate emergency, ecology must be made a theme treated transversally, throughout the year during the examination of the different SES themes (consumption, employment, etc.) from the first year of teaching the subject. This ambitious program would also make it possible to address in the final year the controversies on growth and international trade in terms of environmental preservation, in order to give voice to the different movements and analyzes which make it possible to link economic activity and ecology. So, he asks him how he plans to make ecology and climate change one of the major themes of SES teaching, for a modern education that trains citizens who are ever more responsible and in tune with the challenges of their time.
