Summary

Ms. Soumya Bourouaha draws the attention of the Minister of Health and Access to Care to the need to recognize sports medicine as a medical specialty in its own right. The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games which have just ended have witnessed real popular enthusiasm. Behind the beautiful images and the collective fervor, there is an important legacy to build, both material and intangible. Physical and sporting activity (APS) has been established as a major national cause for 2024 in parallel with the organization of the Paris games. However, sports medicine is still not recognized as a medical specialty in its own right but only as a skill. Today, fourteen European countries have already recognized sports medicine as a medical specialty and the Council of Europe has decided to generalize it to all European countries this specialization by 2026. While a sedentary lifestyle is a real public health problem, several studies have demonstrated the positive impact of physical activity to prevent certain diseases, to stay in shape and to age well. This is why it wishes to know the measures it intends to take to develop sports health and to enable the recognition of sports medicine in as the 45th medical specialty.
