Summary
Mr. Didier Martin draws the attention of the Prime Minister to the question of supporting tourism policy on a national scale. Representing 7.2% of GDP, 2 million direct and indirect jobs and 89.3 million visitors in 2018, tourism is a crucial strategic asset for France and its economy. It is therefore necessary to ensure harmonious development of this sector by ensuring strong political voluntarism. Gold, strength is to note that the latter has long been missing. A certain wait-and-see attitude prevailed because public authorities have long considered that tourism developed on its own, without State intervention. It is also explained by the intrinsically transversal nature of tourism policy which makes any political support complex. Indeed, two ministries, that of Europe and foreign affairs and that of the economy and finances, play a key role in the development of tourism in France and have joint supervision over the state operator Atout France. Identifying each person’s roles and missions is therefore not easy. To strengthen the political support of tourism policy and fight against its fragmentation, the interministerial tourism council (CIT) was created in July 2017. Although it constitutes significant progress, efforts must be intensified so that the benefits of tourism can be maximized. The report “Tourism industry, in which directions can we progress? » produced by Ms. Marguerite Deprez-Audebert and Mr. MP therefore proposes the creation of a State Secretariat placed directly under the Prime Minister in order to finally offer a face to French tourism. He would like to know the measures that the Government intends to implement to strengthen the political support for tourism, a key sector for the economic development and influence of the country.
