Summary
The Ministry of Solidarity and Health pays attention to access to care for all insured persons, one of the conditions of which is to be able to go to the place where their care is provided. The care of obese patients has undergone major changes thanks to the obesity plans implemented in recent years. From 2013, the 37 specialized obesity centers were equipped with a bariatric ambulance that could then transport patients with specific needs linked to this pathology. The desire to improve the care of these patients was reaffirmed in the “2019-2022” obesity roadmap which plans to strengthen the structure and clarity of the offer of this transport in each region. The Government is aware of the insufficiency of the current offer and the difficulties of access to these services, in particular due to tariff supplements billed to patients when they have to use private carriers and not reimbursed by health insurance. To ensure long-lasting and appropriate care throughout the country, the Government wants this issue to be taken into account in the conventional negotiations that are being opened between carriers and health insurance.
