Summary

Representation expenses are directly linked to the exercise of ministerial functions. An allocation of representation expenses is allocated to each member of the Government by the Prime Minister's office. Its amount is, for a full year, 100,000 euros for a secretary of state, 120,000 euros for a minister placed under a minister and 150,000 euros for a minister. It is handled under the responsibility of each minister within the framework of State budgetary and accounting regulations and is the subject of particular attention by the authorizing services in the various ministries, as well as by the ministerial budgetary and accounting controller. There is no document establishing the details of use of the representation expenses allocation and the functionalities offered by the CHORUS software do not allow them to be obtained according to a processing automated in common use. However, the Government carried out work during the year 2021 which will allow ministries in the future to better ensure the traceability of these expenses and to be able to provide a breakdown according to four axes: reception costs, catering costs, protocol gifts, flower purchases.
