Summary
Full respect for fundamental rights must be a permanent requirement in the implementation of European migration and asylum policy. France remains attentive to the reception conditions of refugees in the Greek islands. In this regard, the strengthening of the reception capacity of these centers, as well as the implementation of the policy of transferring migrants from the islands to the continent, have favored the improvement of conditions and the reduction of the number of migrants in the Greek islands. France also participates in solidarity efforts by contributing concretely to the relocation of people eligible for international protection. Thus, as part of the 2015-2017 relocation program from Greece to other Member States of the European Union, 21,500 people were relocated, including 4,390 to France (second host country after Germany). Since then, France has continued this solidarity effort. Nearly 700 people have been welcomed in France since 2019.
