Summary

Ms. Florence Provendier questions the Minister of Ecological Transition on France's progress in respecting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From July 7 to 16, 2020, the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) was held, an annual conference under the auspices of the United Nations which is responsible for examining the progress of countries within the framework of the 2030 Agenda. This year, it took place against the backdrop of of a global pandemic that affects the entire planet economically and socially. The working sessions focused on how to build back better after covid-19. As we enter a crucial decade for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), multiple crises are stopping this momentum for a fairer and more sustainable world. The advances made over the last 5 years are endangered by a decline in the right of access to health first, also to education or even to the right to live in a healthy environment. The World Bank estimates that 100 million additional people could fall into extreme poverty in 2020. The period we are going through highlights structural weaknesses in societies: working in silos, centralization of skills, weakness of democracy participatory, lack of confidence in institutions, economy heavily dependent on polluting materials... These are the same observations that led to the drafting of the SDG roadmap in 2015, which France translated into 6 challenges: putting an end to inequalities; enter carbon sobriety and act for biodiversity; promote lifelong education for all; act for the health, well-being of all and healthy and sustainable agriculture; make citizen participation and territorial innovation effective; and finally work in Europe and the world for stability, development and peace. Last year during the HLPF, France reaffirmed its ambition to keep its commitments and accelerate their achievement. Also, she would like to know the progress made by France this year and the place that the SDGs will take in politics general of the Government so that by 2030 the country will have achieved them.
