Summary
In accordance with article L. 411-4 of the rural and maritime fishing code, rural lease contracts must be in writing. However, the same article specifies that, unless they are written, leases concluded verbally are supposed to be made for nine years under the clauses and conditions of the standard contract established in each department by the advisory commission for rural leases. Proof of the existence of a lease, even verbal, can be provided by anyone means (for example proof of payment of rent). According to the rules of common law, it belongs to the person who demands performance of the obligation.
