Summary
Ms. Alexandra Martin (Alpes-Maritimes) draws the attention of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty to the conditions of animal slaughter. The latest images published by the L214 association, denouncing the situation at a Rhône slaughterhouse, show practices and installations that do not comply with regulations, are dangerous for employees and cause extreme suffering for the animals. Even though videos and photos show conscious animals having their throats cut despite prior stunning, or other animals decapitated while they are still alive, only the slaughter of pigs has been suspended by state services. Faced with this observation, a generalized audit of all slaughterhouses in France must be carried out and extended to poultry and lagomorph slaughterhouses. Indeed, a transparent inventory for all taxpayers seems essential as well as the publication of the reports of each establishment. Consequently, she asks what measures the Government plans to take to ensure better protection of animals in slaughterhouses as well as better information for consumers on slaughter conditions.
