Summary
In its opinion of April 9, 2021, the High Authority for Health (HAS) specifies that the strategy of using a two-stage vaccination schedule using for the second injection (boost) a vaccine using a different technique from the first (prime) is called “heterologous primeboost”. Many arguments are in favor of this strategy, already used in the context of the development of certain vaccines (HIV in particular) and which proved to be more effective than the counterpart prime-boost approach (strictly identical injections). It is also important to emphasize that the vaccines currently used or mainly under development in anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination target the same antigen (S protein), which supports this strategy. Given the position of the health authorities on this subject, the Government has therefore integrated this strategy for the Covid-19 vaccination campaign.
