Summary

The Government is particularly attentive to the subject of unconventional health care practices (PNCS) such as animal mediation. In fact, since 2010, the General Directorate of Health has financed a multi-year program for evaluating the PNCS. It thus entrusted the National Institute of Health and Medical Research with carrying out evaluations using reviews of international scientific literature, aimed at identifying promising practices and potentially dangerous ones. Its services request, if necessary, an additional opinion from the High Authority of Health or the High Council of Public Health. In addition, a technical support group on unconventional health practices, made up of representatives of national authorities concerned by these practices, has the mission of exercising a consultative function to assist in the design, implementation and monitoring of the policy concerning the PNCS and the proper information of the public. PNCS can only be recognized when the benefit/risk ratio of these practices is demonstrated through validated clinical studies. However, these unconventional practices rarely benefit from research studies involving humans, which prevents them from being recognized in our health system. This It is therefore only when the benefit of animal mediation is scientifically demonstrated, through this type of study, that it will be able to justify a place to be defined in our health system.
