Summary

The theme of sleep finds its place in the school's missions as part of the promotion of health at school developed by the implementation of the educational health pathway (PES), defined in article L. 541-1 of the education code. The PES brings together a coherent set of actions implemented during the school year, both individually and collectively but also throughout schooling, kindergarten to high school. These educational and pedagogical projects carried out by the entire educational community (national education inspectors, school principals, teachers, education staff, social and health staff) make it possible to make the student an actor in the lessons. They can involve the school's partners (municipalities, actors in the care and prevention system, associations specializing in promoting health) in prevention, promotion and education approaches for health and makes the link with local development mechanisms relating to health promotion: local health contract or territorial educational project (PEdT). In middle and high school, in connection with the establishment project, the health and citizenship education committee (CESC), whose guidelines are set by circular no. 2016-114 of August 10, 2016 allows us to structure and organize useful partnerships. Inter-degree CESCs can be installed to establish territorial dynamics. At the departmental and academic level, the departmental and academic health and citizenship education committees (CDESC, CAESC) develop the territorial strategy in conjunction with local stakeholders and set up the necessary partnerships. As part of an approach to co-education, parents can be involved in the promotion of health at school: - through the participation of parent representatives in school and educational establishment bodies: school council, board of directors, health and citizenship education committee; - by disseminating information throughout the year on the educational actions implemented; - by running the parents space (article L. 521-4 of education code). A place mainly dedicated to individual and collective meetings, facilitating the participation of families, exchanges and conviviality, it can be organized by schools and educational establishments meeting times on any theme responding to the concerns of families. Resources relating to sleep (sleep day, resources from Public Health France and Morphée) have been posted online on the pages dedicated to health promotion: http://eduscol.education.fr/cid47876/thematiques-ciblees.html#lien5 The issue of screen exposure is particularly followed by the Ministry of National Education which organized a “child and youth health meeting” in Nancy, on May 31 and June 1, 2018, devoted to this subject. The parents' case, which will be available for the start of the 2018 school year, offers fact sheets on sleep as well as the use of screens. In addition, the theme of school and biological rhythms is the subject of training included in the 2017-2018 academic training plans (PAF) in several academies such as in Versailles, where continuing training courses for staff devoted to the rhythms of children in kindergarten were included, or in the Orléans-Tours academy where staff had access to a training entitled “school rhythms, biological rhythms, learning rhythms”. Finally, the ministry has a cautious position on the development of relaxation sessions for students and calls on academies to be vigilant on this subject because if these actions can be beneficial, certain promoters of these methods can also involve positions that are not appropriate for children and it is the role of the school not to expose children to unsafe interventions. The approval and agreement process with associations allows us to better understand the actors and evaluate the relevance of their intervention within the framework of complementary educational actions.
