Summary
By introducing a part of continuous monitoring in the baccalaureate assessment, the minister wanted a simpler organization of the exam and one likely to reinforce the regularity of the work. Indeed, the evaluation of the work of the two years of the final cycle is no longer based on a few days at the end of the final year, but now also values the efforts made throughout the first and final years of schooling. Furthermore, it was careful to ensure that this new organization is applicable to all candidates, regardless of their status. Thus, the organization of continuous assessment, accounting for 40% of the average mark obtained in the exam, results in taking into account the grades from first and final year report cards for 10% and by common continuous assessment tests organized in first and final year for 30%. Special terms regarding the evaluation of continuous assessment have been adopted for “free candidates”, namely students who do not follow courses in any establishment, students enrolled in a private educational establishment outside of a contract and students registered at the National Center for Distance Education (CNED) not attached to an establishment. These terms are set out in article 9 of the decree of July 16, 2018 relating to organizational terms continuous monitoring for the evaluation of lessons taught in classes leading to the general baccalaureate and the technological baccalaureate, and by a second order specifying the provisions currently being published. These provisions stipulate that, for “free candidates”, continuous assessment will be organized as follows: - candidates will be summoned by the rector of the academy of their residence or the vice-rector a one-off test for specialty teaching not giving rise to a final test at the same time as the common continuous assessment tests taken by candidates in first grade; - in the same way, they will be summoned to a one-off test for each of the other courses which are the subject of common continuous assessment tests taken by all the candidates at the same period of the class of terminal; - the 10% share of the annual numerical evaluation of individual candidates, who by definition do not have report card marks obtained in class, will be fixed taking into account only the marks obtained in specific tests. Candidates registered in a regulated class at the CNED, for whom the annual quantified evaluation of the results of the final cycle provided in the school record will be taken into account for a share of 10% in the final exam mark.
