Summary
Eelnõu võimaldab panustada 2024. aastal kuni kolme kaitseväelasega Ühinenud Rahvaste Organisatsiooni (ÜRO) rahuvalveoperatsioonile Lähis-Idas. UNTSO on ÜRO esimene rahuvalvemissioon, mis on puhtalt vaatlusmissioon. UNTSO tegevuspiirkond on Lähis-Ida, täpsemalt Egiptus, Iisrael, Jordaania, Liibanon ja Süüria. Missiooni peakorter asub Jeruusalemmas. UNTSO sõjalised vaatlejad on tegutsenud piirkonnas läbi aastakümnete, olles vaenulike poolte vahel ning hoides sellega ära lokaalsete kokkupõrgete eskaleerumise suureks konfliktikoldeks Lähis-Idas. ÜRO liikmesriigina panustab Eesti julgeoleku tagamisse kriisipiirkondades. Järjepidev osalemine ÜRO operatsioonidel on Eesti jaoks olnud oluline ning tõstnud Eesti nähtavust, seda ka ÜRO Julgeolekunõukogu valitud liikmena aastatel 2020–2021. Eesti kaitseväelaste osalemine ÜRO operatsioonidel aitab tugevdada Eesti panust ÜRO tegevusse rahu kindlustamisel. Eesti sõjalised vaatlejad osalevad UNTSO missiooni koosseisus alates 1997. aastast.
