Summary
According to the bill, it will be possible to contribute up to five defense personnel to the European Union training mission EUTM Mozambique in 2023. On July 12, 2021, the Council of the European Union established the training mission EUTM Mozambique (European Union Training Mission in Mozambique) in Mozambique. Participation in EUTM Mozambique is important for Estonia in terms of both foreign and defense policy. One of Estonia's priorities is to participate in the EU's common security and defense policy in implementation. By participating in the mission, Estonia contributes to the military operation of the European Union in solidarity with other member states. In addition, it is important for Estonia to develop cooperation with strategic allies of the EU's southern wing. The lead country of the mission is Portugal. Estonia was one of the first countries to inform Portugal of its desire to contribute, and from 16.12.2021 we will contribute with one legal advisor. The tasks of the Estonian Defense Forces are to advise the commander of EUTM Mozambique in legal matters and training members of the local armed forces in human rights issues. The national defense committee was appointed as the leading committee.
