Summary
Eelnõu võimaldab Eestil panustada 2026. aastal kuni kolme kaitseväelasega EL merendusjulgeoleku operatsioonile EUNAVFOR Aspides, mis loodi vastuseks Punase mere kriisile ja mille eesmärk on tagada meresõiduvabadus. Operatsioon alustas tegevust 19. veebruaril 2024 ning selle mandaat kestab vähemalt 28. veebruarini 2026, vajadusel pikendatuna. Operatsiooniala hõlmab Bab el Mandebi ja Hormuzi väina, Punase ja Araabia mere ning Adeni, Omaani ja Pärsia lahe rahvusvahelisi vetealasid. Aspidese tegevus keskendub merelise kohaloleku ja olukorrateadlikkuse saavutamisele ning turvalise meresõidu tagamisele piirkonnas. Operatsioonil osaleb 21 EL-i liikmesriiki, juhtriigiks on Kreeka. Eesti on 2025. aastal panustanud ühe kaitseväelasega operatsioonivägede staabi lahinguvalve vahetuse ülema abi ametikohal ning 2026. aastal suurendatakse panust kuni kolme kaitseväelaseni.
