Summary
Mr. Pierre-Yves Cadalen draws the attention of the Minister of Health, Families, Autonomy and Disabled People to the reimbursement of orthopedic beds and chairs. The Ensemble pour Clémence association contacted Mr. MP to alert him about the difficult financial cost that specialized medical equipment bears on helping families. Here, we are talking in particular about electric chairs and electric beds. This association aims to help children and young adults, sick or disabled, as well as their families, by improving their daily lives, such as a high school student who needed to motorize her wheelchair, an intervention which can cost up to 6,000 euros, entirely borne by the families. These devices, such as medical beds, can be of great interest for the comfort of families, facilitating getting up and going to bed and therefore reducing back pain and other suffering. This is an important relief in the context of a life of caregiver and/or patient. However, the cost of a medical bed easily reaches 11,000 euros, a cost “justified” by the 20% VAT which is added to the starting price, thus making access to comfort in illness or disability unequal for families. In October 2024, a proposed law concerning the support of equipment has been adopted, only for people suffering from Charcot disease. He asks her to justify the non-coverage for other degenerative pathologies and the measures she intends to implement to remedy this injustice.
