Summary

Mr. Hervé Saulignac draws the attention of the Minister of Sports to the future of exploration and supplementary lessons in the physical education and sports (EPS) option as part of the baccalaureate reform. Among the changes being considered, one concerns the removal of sport from the final exam. The baccalaureate is the subject of a vast reform and its new format should come into force in 2021 (students enrolled in second Today). If the precise content of the reform is not yet fully known, the first information shows a less important place for sport. In an interview with the Journal du Dimanche at the end of September 2018, the minister suggested that Latin and Greek would be “the only two options which will bring bonus points in the new baccalaureate”. The only two options, therefore, no sport, no third living language or artistic disciplines. After the reduction of CNDS credits, the weakening of EPS also comes into direct contradiction with the major objectives stated by the Government such as: the increase of 3 million people practicing a sporting activity, the development of health sport, or even the use of sport as a vector of social cohesion and learning of republican values. The weakening of EPS is all the more aberrant as France has been awarded the organization of the 2024 Olympic Games. While the Anglo-Saxon countries make sports practice one of the major pillars of their education system, such a devaluation of the added value that sport should bring to a school curriculum in France will end up killing the sports sections, emptying UNSS activities and, ultimately, weakening the sectors French sportswomen. He therefore wishes to know his intentions in order to remedy this problem.
