Summary
Ms Émilie Guerel draws the attention of the Minister of Solidarity and Health to improving the visual health of elderly people losing their autonomy. At a time when the Government has announced 100% coverage of access to care in the field of optics in particular, the organization of the vision sector is struggling to provide access to the necessary care for elderly people losing their autonomy. In fact, according to a study recent research from Inserm Aliénor, nearly 40% of subjects aged over 78 do not benefit from optical equipment adapted to their needs. If, since 2017, opticians have been authorized to carry out so-called “refraction” visual acuity tests, the application of this device is today limited to the sole “enclosure of the optical-eyewear store” or to an adjoining room. However, elderly people housed in a accommodation establishment for dependent elderly people (EHPAD) cannot travel alone to places of consultation or care. Their condition requires supported mobility, which is neither compatible with the number of caregivers in EHPADs nor possible for all residents' families. It would therefore be appropriate to open EHPADs so that health and care professionals can come and meet their residents, to do not allow elderly people losing their autonomy to approach the medical world. Therefore, she would like to know what the Government intends to do to allow opticians to check on site, within EHPADs, the visual acuity of elderly people losing their autonomy.
