Summary
Mr. Jérôme Legavre questions the Minister of National Education and Youth on the full maintenance of teaching resources dedicated to artistic disciplines, plastic arts and musical education, in the overall hourly allocation of colleges. In January 2024, the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister announced the introduction of theater in middle school as part of the reform of the “clash of knowledge” for a strengthening artistic and cultural education (EAC). Currently, there are two compulsory arts courses, visual arts and musical education, for one hour per week, from sixth grade to third grade. Middle school students also have optional choral singing lessons bringing together students from all levels, for 72 hours per year, including at least one hour per week. In order to To avoid any confusion, it is important to specify that artistic teaching is distinguished from EAC registered in quite diverse courses (PEAC) and that certificates of aptitude for secondary education teaching (CAPES) in musical education and visual arts were created in 1972. Schools did not receive any additional specific hourly allocation for the implementation of theater and after the elimination of technology in sixth grade, plastic arts and music teachers therefore fear a reduction in their teaching and the calling into question of their discipline. A report from the general inspection of education, sport and research (IGESR) published in March 2020, “Artistic teaching in college: state of play and perspectives 2019-076”, specifies that “these artistic teachings compulsory courses benefit for the training of students from the continuity, regularity and progressiveness of learning which anchors them in the common functioning of the School. It thus wishes to ensure that the teaching resources dedicated to artistic disciplines, visual arts and musical education, are fully maintained in the overall hourly allocation of colleges.
