Summary
Ms. Claire O'Petit draws the attention of the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation to zootechnical experiments on animals. An animal rights association recently revealed the experiments carried out to develop and test foods to increase the performance of farm animals. Animal husbandry as carried out since the 19th century has led to the physical transformation of animals. They became bigger, heavier, more productive. During the 20th century, this transformation further intensified and is the cause of numerous health problems for animals: lameness, lung or heart deficiencies, digestive disorders or even inflammation of the skin, exhaustion of the body. Article L. 214-3 of the rural code, however, limits medical and scientific biological experiments to case of strict necessity. The optimization of farm animals does not fall under this scenario. She would therefore like to know the measures that the Government intends to take to prohibit this private or public research intended to optimize the productivity of farm animals.
