Summary

Mr. François Jolivet draws the attention of the Minister of Solidarity and Health to the recognition of fibromyalgia. This disease is characterized by muscle and joint pain, extreme fatigue, sleep disorders and even cognitive disorders. She experiences the daily life of patients, who have to live both with intense pain and, sometimes, with the incomprehension of those around them. Difficulties appear, such as the impossibility of working. In France, 2 to 4% of the population are affected by this pathology, or around 2 million people. In addition, since 1995 we have observed a significant resurgence of the pathology, which increasingly affects young populations (under 30 years old). In recent years, scientific studies and discoveries have demonstrated abnormal activity in the part of the brain that treats pain in people affected by this disease. The neurological aspect is proven, the World Health Organization has recognized fibromyalgia as a disease in its own right. This is the case, for example, in a European country like Belgium. However, fibromyalgia is not yet officially recognized as such in France, since it is only recognized as a “syndrome”. This recognition would allow on the one hand a better consideration of the disease by doctors and on the other hand to ensure better care of patients. Diagnosis and treatment are now done on a case-by-case basis, and very unevenly depending on the department. This is why he asks him to clarify whether recognition is being considered by France, and wishes to know whether the Government intends to deploy a national strategy for apprehending the fibromyalgia to improve its diagnosis and management.
